Lindores Abbey - MCDXCIV (1494) Commemorative First Release
Lindores Abbey - MCDXCIV (1494) Commemorative First Release
Lindores Abbey distillery was opened in 2017 and started distilling whisky in December 2017, using three copper pot stills made by Forsyths of Rothes. Lindores Abbey has widely recognised links to the earliest written reference to Scotch Whisky and so the opening of the distillery heralds the first spirit to be produced in the area in 523 years.
The Lindores Abbey Farm, where the distillery is located, was bought by Drew McKenzie Smith’s grandfather in 1913. Like his father before him, Drew now holds the title of ‘Custodian of Lindores’. Drew and his wife spent two decades tirelessly researching, planning and campaigning to bring a distillery back to the grounds of Lindores Abbey. In 2021 the first whisky was released, representing the fruition of their dream.
The commemorative first release of Lindores Abbey's single malt whisky, aged in a combination of bourbon barrels, wine barriques and sherry butts.
The first 12,750 bottles produced were commemoratively labelled as the 'First Release'.
