Carsebridge distillery was once one of the most productive grain whisky operations in Scotland — founded in 1798 near Alloa as a malt whisky producer, converted to grain production in 1852, and eventually rising to become the largest producer in the Distillers Company Limited portfolio. But by 1983, the economics of overproduction caught up with it and the site was closed, then demolished in the 1990s. All that exists now is the whisky still sleeping in cask at bonds across Scotland — and very little of it predates 1970. This single bourbon barrel was filled on 16th November 1965. It has been maturing for 58 years. When Claxton's Spirits unearthed it at the Dalswinton Bond, it yielded just 37 bottles at 40.3% ABV. The fourth release in their Unicorn Series, it is described by the bottler as one of the oldest whiskies they have ever released. They are not wrong.

Tasting Notes
At 58 years in a single bourbon barrel, aged grain whisky of this calibre moves far beyond its origins — expect profound oak integration, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, and dried tropical fruit, with a delicate, almost ethereal quality that only decades of patient maturation can produce. A whisky that asks nothing of you except attention.

Why This Bottle Is Worth Bidding On
- Thirty-seven bottles. That is the entire global outturn of this expression. A single cask, 58 years old, from a demolished distillery — there is no category of Scotch whisky rarer than this.
- Carsebridge has been gone for over 40 years. Every bottle distilled there is irreplaceable, and casks of 1965 vintage grain from this distillery represent some of the oldest whisky in existence. Once opened, a bottle is lost forever.
- The Claxton's Unicorn Series was specifically created to release the most extraordinary and low-volume casks found in their warehouses — and this is the one they called one of the oldest they've ever released. At 37 bottles worldwide, it is almost certainly one of the most limited legitimate whisky releases of the decade.
